My contribution to Brand New Nostalgia this week - the theme was “Apocalyptic Bikers”. Check out the other great artists and work at http://brandnewnostalgia.com/

Another poster design that I did for fun in order to promote my and Steve Trevathan’s company, Dobot. I wanted to use a well known vintage property that is universally loved in order to create something with my modern illustration style, and what better than the classic movie, “King Kong”. This also arose the possibility of adding info-graphic like biplanes to the scene that could also lend to inform the viewer a little bit about the company itself. The colors I chose our slightly skewed versions of my typically palette. I wanted to keep them muted and more on the yellow tinted side of the spectrum, which I think lends well to the classic subject matter and feel that I love so much. Hope you enjoy!

Last night I was contacted by the great Ivan Brandon and Chuck BB about possibly doing some coloring work for a comic they are working on. After some discussion, I had a hand at coloring an inked character sketch he had sent me of the story’s protagonist. “Deathface”. It was an incredibly fun process and it was great to see the two versions, inked and colored, placed alongside each other. Here’s to hoping for a great future partnership!

The left hand illustration is all Chuck BB’s work. The right hand image is my coloring job to his character design.

In both preparation and promotion for our ( Steve Trevathan and I ) recently established company, “dobot”, we created this poster design that will be distributed as well as sold in our online store, once it’s set up. It also works as a precursor for what is to come from the company. That being said, we are a design company that works to create the best product possible for people and company who are looking to progress, innovate, or in some way improve/contribute to the world. This image represents the closest thing we have to a mascot; a giant robot character we created aptly named, dobot. In a story we’ve conceived (and will ultimately present to the world via animated storybook series on our site) he is a robot who lands on earth and seems to have been programmed to do one simple task; improve the design of everything in order to make it as efficient as possible - a gross exaggeration of our company’s motto. It’s going to be a ton of fun to create and we think that it will be great for our creative juices and personalities to shine through.

So, I’ve been asked quite a few times about if I were going to make a children’s book, or would consider it; the answer is yes. I’ve actually been writing ideas for several children’s book stories, three of which I hope to develop into fully published products. The one I’ve decided to start with is “Mr. Ami’s Postal Service”, which was an idea that I had created back in my senior year of college. It was a dedication piece to my father since he had always dreamed of flying, but never got the chance to see it come true. The closest he ever got was commercial flights and roller-coasters. This story was made to help form a strong bond between parent(s) and child(ren). I had posted a few images before of this concept and a few initial pages (I do have the whole storyboard/manuscript done though) but since my style has changed, I’ve decided to take it from the top and make the strongest 40 page children’s book I can so I can proudly help children and keep adults’ imaginations alive. Enjoy this preview!

I’ve been working closely with the Boston based band The Shills to design their new album “Keep Your Hands Busy” that will be releasing later this year. And since the album’s themes stray to the darker side of life, the idea behind this design was to create a collage of hands doing various activities to essentially distract oneself from the variety of miseries that plague us all in life; internally and externally. Making it a very clear theme that we can all relate to.

Postcard I made for the holidays this season. It’s a design based on the concept of Christmas Squid; a character design I made years ago when I was first in college. I imagine the story to be very similar to Nightmare Before Christmas where the squid sees imagery of Santa and begins to replicate his actions as best he can, which involves raising the sea level and delivering garbage from the bottom of the ocean.

And here is the colored version of me getting punched so you can really make out what is blood and what is my face. Take note, there is in fact a tooth in the spatter and the lack of one in my mouth. This is a typical morning for me in Boston by the way.

Because I was curious and found it intriguing.

So, this is another two page spread of the mother walking in on the two boys’ mess which had recently been caused by the imaginary space battle against the dreaded Slorth monsters. Notice the stuffed and or rubber figure within the toy box of the creature previously shown in the depiction of their imaginary fight on Mars.

All right. So I’ve made a few changes to finalize the comic. There is now a new font and a gray tone. This is how the comic will look once produced and up for presenting at comicon. Thanks for the support.

So this idea began a while ago, and I just now got around to doing it. One day, while probably riding on the train, I thought, “How much would it hurt if Superman kicked someone in the balls?” Spurring on that, what makes any nut shot worse is being a kid. And what monster would do such a thing? Superman apparently. Turns out he’s a dick and has become part of the “Injustice League”.
