Last week I did a cover for Boston circular The WeeklyDig’s winter issue. I’ve put the original illustration alongside the printed design. Hope it helps to get people into the holiday spirit!
I was contacted by the Drawing Dreams Foundation over the past weekend, who asked if I would be interested in contributing two line drawings for their upcoming coloring book. It’s a zoo themed coloring book, but they wanted all of the animals to be imaginary blends of preexisting animals. Below each illustration would be a blank space designated by a line where the kids can give the creature a name. The coloring books will be donated and distributed to hospitalized children and sold online, at selective retail venues, and at hospital and museum gift shops. Proceeds from online and retail sales will help fund printing costs and distribution to children’s hospitals. I’m very pleased to have helped with such a great idea and can’t wait to see what the kids think or what other creatures might develop for the final book release in December. A little character design I did last night in order to take a break. I wanted to make something cute and childish, which meant illustrating a hedgehog named “Hedgy”, holding a button and wearing a thimble. Let the cute ensue.

Here’s my final colored piece for the blog Brand New Nostalgia. This week’s theme was “Space”, and since I have been planning a second children’s book that is based around Dinosaurs in Space, I thought that I may as well do a character design for the book. I’ll hopefully have more to share on this project soon. Stay tuned!

So, I’ve been asked quite a few times about if I were going to make a children’s book, or would consider it; the answer is yes. I’ve actually been writing ideas for several children’s book stories, three of which I hope to develop into fully published products. The one I’ve decided to start with is “Mr. Ami’s Postal Service”, which was an idea that I had created back in my senior year of college. It was a dedication piece to my father since he had always dreamed of flying, but never got the chance to see it come true. The closest he ever got was commercial flights and roller-coasters. This story was made to help form a strong bond between parent(s) and child(ren). I had posted a few images before of this concept and a few initial pages (I do have the whole storyboard/manuscript done though) but since my style has changed, I’ve decided to take it from the top and make the strongest 40 page children’s book I can so I can proudly help children and keep adults’ imaginations alive. Enjoy this preview!

I was contacted to do some promotional work for a bike organizations upcoming sponsored ride. They wanted something that depicted diversity and was lighthearted, so that everyone can feel welcome. I decided to depict a rode that rose towards the sky in an abstract manner, symbolic to dreams or shooting for the stars. If you look closely, the riders have Hermes like wings attached to their helmets and shoes. Also, the top right is left vacant for either text or a logo to go when the time comes.
So, this is another two page spread of the mother walking in on the two boys’ mess which had recently been caused by the imaginary space battle against the dreaded Slorth monsters. Notice the stuffed and or rubber figure within the toy box of the creature previously shown in the depiction of their imaginary fight on Mars.
