If I wasn’t already pumped for a new Evil Dead movie to come out, particularly one that doesn’t suck, imagine how extra pumped I was to have been asked to design an Evil Dead tribute poster during the same opening week. Ash/Bruce Campbell is quite an interesting fellow to draw, and I would happily draw him again. Hopefully someone out there wants a sweet Brisco County Jr. poster next :)

Hey everyone,

So it’s been quite a while since I posted anything new, which is very unlike me. Rest assured, I’ve still been extremely busy creating new art, but not all of it are projects or pieces I can pull the curtain off yet. However, one of the things that I can officially announce is the title of my upcoming book series, “The Cartoon Guidebook To Absolute Failure”, written by my great friend Erik Craddock. As you can probably guess by the cover of Issue 1, this book is a little over the top. There will be 6 issues in total, but the first one will be releasing later this summer. After great apprehension to do so, I broke and ended up buying a jumbo (12”x17”-ish) Moleskine sketchbook. The size is truly fantastic and really allows your hand and arm to move freely about the page without any worry of constraint. In order to get this bad boy started, I chose to do an illustration of The White Violin from Umbrella Academy by Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba. If you haven’t done so yet, read that comic now… like, right now.

It took me a while to get around to reading it myself actually. Since it came out in the years of my college education, I didn’t allow myself the opportunity of reading it then, although I’m sure it would’ve helped inspire me and my studies in some way, especially considering it was art school. Looking back on it, I didn’t even have good excuse; even the library next door to my house had a copy. In the end, I bought one for myself to enjoy at my own leisure in the comfort of my own home, and man did I enjoy it. So in short, I recommend everyone give it a chance, or at least check it out several times from your library so that it at least makes you feel guilty for not reading it.

On another note:

I initially acquired this massive sketchbook in order to travel with it, but I had not anticipated its scale to that of my backpack. So I’m not quite sure how transportable it will ultimately be, but I plan on taking it for a spin with me to California this Friday for some good old life drawing exercises. If all goes well, I will return home with a more complete and hopefully intact sketchbook. Otherwise this White Violin sketch might be the one and only drawing attributed to this new sketchbook’s name (Heraldo?) that sees the light of day

So, not that either of these characters are related in any way other than the fact they’re both Marvel properties, but I’m posting them together because they were gifts for my brother, who I just visited this weekend. Knowing he was/is a huge comic book fan, I wanted to give him some personalized art as a much belated Christmas present. By his request, the characters he wanted were Dr. Doom and Scarlet Witch (having just failed to win the lottery on repeated attempts). They were a ton of fun to do and I always love doing commissions for people, so I wanted to share them. Hope you like them!

I was asked to do a screen-print poster design for the new Tomb Raider game, which was particularly exciting to tackle since I’d been looking forward to this release over the past year or so. I decided to highlight the landscape and the island rather than a specific character since it’s hazards are a character themselves and help to define Lara this time around.

The anthology—debuting at this year’s Calgary Expo—comes in at 80 pages, and I’m doing a super nice limited printing. All of the shorts are written by me, with art from truly amazing up-and-coming artists. Some of the stories in the anthology have appeared on Challenger; some of them I’m saving for this collection.

I did this Margot (& Richie) Tenenbaum illustration for an upcoming “pop-culture romances” Valentine’s Day gallery show in New York at the Bottleneck Gallery. Over the past couple of nights I was inspired by the Uncanny X-Force series to sketch some of my favorite X-Men characters; none of which are actually in the X-Force.
